Theodora

The story of Theodora, who, with her lover Didymus, was put to death by the Roman Governor of Antioch for refusing to give up her Christian faith and worship the Roman gods was chosen by Händel to create a dramatic oratorio and premiered in Covent Garden in 1750 and was originally seen as a failure. This striking new production brings the opera back the Royal Opera house in a striking production by Katie Mitchell stars Julia Bullock in the title role, alongside Joyce DiDonato and Jakub Jósef Orlinski and truly shows the greatness of one of Händel's finest works.
