Vienna Philharmonic & Franz Welser-Möst: Mahler 9
From 1898 to 1901, Gustav Mahler himself conducted the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the legendary Subscription Concert Series. In June 1912, one year after Gustav Mahler’s death, his Ninth Symphony was premiered by this very orchestra. In this Subscription Concert Austrian conductor Franz Welser-Möst, with whom the orchestra has long been associated, presents the work anew. The subscription concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic are reserved for subscribers; regular tickets can only be purchased in exceptional cases. The recording thus makes it possible for a wider audience to attend these exclusive concerts.
