Concert Commemorating The End Of First World War 1918

  • Leipzig, Peterskirche © Stephan Flad

On 11 November 1918, a first cease-fire ended the acts of a war of hitherto unknown brutality and cruelty. It has brought hardship, misery and pain to Europe. 17 million people were killed. Quite a few artists of that generation, some of whom had to experience the war on the front lines, dedicate their works to this traumatisation by the war. Among them: Walter Braunfels and Gustv Holst. Other promising talents, such as Ernest Farrar and Rudi Stephan, fell at the front. The MDR Rundfunkchor and MDR Sinfonieorchester recall the end of the First World War exactly 100 years ago with a programme that is as moving as it is haunting.
