Juan Diego Florez: Besame Mucho

  • Juan Diego Florez © Manfred Baumann

The Peruvian tenor goes back to his roots: “I grew up with vals criollos, marineras, boleros, rancheras and tangos, magnificent songs from Latin America.” His grandmother played tangos on the piano and his father Ruben is a folk singer famous in Peru. It’s also worth recalling, that these songs were often written for established opera singers, such as Besame Mucho, a song everyone thinks to know, murdered over the years by crooners, now sounding simply wonderful when sung by Juan Diego Florez.
