Mara – The Epic Journey Of A Luminary

  • Christian Poltéra © Nikolaj Lund

This is the story not just of a cello, but of the most famous cello in the world. Built in 1711 in the Cremonese workshop of Antonio Stradivari, Mara travelled around the globe numerous times and played for kings and citizens in cathedrals and palaces. It was destroyed in a shipwreck on the Rio de la Plata river, but as if by magic it was eventually rescued and repaired. The cellist Christian Poltéra takes us on a journey through the sublime history and soundscapes of his cello, Mara.
