Bruckner's monumental Eighth strives toward sublimity. Awe-inspiring waves of sounds tower up before breaking against one another with incredible force. A performance of the Eighth is always a special occasion, and this concert will be no exception, as the Gewandhaus Orchestra launch the summer festival at Baden Baden with a spectacular opening concert. Nelsons and the world-class orchestra from Leipzig have been working intensively on Bruckner over the last few years, recording several of his symphonies, and this concert promises to demonstrate the fruit of their labors.
