With its chief conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra presents at the BBC Proms an exciting programme, Weinberg's bitter-sweet 3rd Symphony and works by Howell and Knussen. Rising star Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who is the first black musician ever to win the BBC Young Musician of the Year Award in 2016, plays Elgar's Cello Concerto, a cornerstone of the solo cello repertoire: "He and Grazinyte-Tyla held the 5,000-plus audience in rapt attention with the most introspective of performances"(Financial Times). "A performance of surpassing delicacy and refinement" (The Telegraph). (A 025 50461 0000)
