Reviving Maurice Béjart's choreography on Beethoven's 9th Symphony for the anniversary of the Tokyo Ballet is no mean feat. Arantxa Aguirre followed preparations with the Béjart Ballet in Lausanne and with the Japanese company in Tokyo ending with a stunning performance. On her way she is assisted by Malya Roman, daughter of the Béjart Ballets artistic director, who – in asking the right questions – reveals a lot about the genius of Béjart, his choreography and his dancers while Zubin Mehta, who conducted the live performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, talks about Beethoven and his message.
