Love And Death – The Story Of Enrique Granados
Granados had his first success as a composer with Danzas Espanolas. The performance of his piano suite Goyescas in Paris prompted the Paris Opera to commission an opera based on this material. During World War I the première was moved to the Met in New York. On their way back, the composer and his beloved wife Amparo died when a German U-Boot hit their ferry while crossing the Channel. Arantxa Aguirre tells their story with archive footage and paintings and postcards animated in surprising ways with booming 19th-century Barcelona as a backdrop. Highlights include a performance by Evgeny Kissin and choreography by Béjart and Patricia Guerrero.
