Michael Tilson Thomas (*1944) is an American conductor, pianist, and composer. He is currently music director of the San Francisco Symphony and artistic director of the New World Symphony, an American orchestral academy based in Miami Beach, Florida. He has won eleven GRAMMYs for his recordings, is the recipient of the National Medal of Arts, and is a Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France. The currently untitled American Masters film will explore Tilson Thomas’ life using a mixture of verité and archival footage. Directed by Susan Froemke.
