Jacques Offenbach (born 20 June 1819 in Cologne, Prussia, died 5 October 1880 in Paris) is known all over the world for a type of light burlesque French comic opera called the "opérette". But many aspects of his life remain obscure. Through documentary, drama and music, this film retraces his exceptional career. Filmed in beautiful locations in Paris, the docudrama boasts a talented cast alongside Stéphanie d'Oustrac, one of the most outstanding mezzos of her generation, flamboyant actor Michel Fau and amazing newcomer Robert Hatisi who plays Jacques Offenbach.
