RCO Opening Night 2019: Elim Chan & Simone Lamsma
Violinist Simone Lamsma performs Tchaikovsky’s well-loved Violin Concerto, after which conductor Elim Chan takes listeners deeper into Tchaikovsky’s Romantic fairy-tale world. Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto may demand the utmost from the soloist, but it also happens to be one of the most popular classical compositions of all time, and nowhere is the well-known story of Romeo and Juliet depicted as longingly as it is in Tchaikovsky’s fantasy overture. Subsequently, things get even more romantic when the Concertgebouworkest performs the suite from Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake.
