Verbier Festival 2019 – Opening Concert With Valery Gergiev

Valery Gergiev is the music director of the Verbier Festival Orchestra. For the opening of the 2019 festival, he has devised a programme which honours his Hungarian soloist, Kristof Barati, whose affinity for Bartók's Violin Concerto No. 2 is immediately perceptible. In the second half, Gergiev conducts one of his war horses: Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, which is propelled by the musical forces of the orchestra's young musicians.
