Young Stars Gather To Showcase The Present Shape Of Nippon’s Traditional Performing Arts

  • © NHK – Japan Broadcasting Corporation

The programme introduces four young performers who lead the world of traditional performing arts as the “faces of the era.” Matsuya Onoe is a kabuki performer who is also making his mark freely in television dramas and musicals as a leading young actor. While devoting himself to the study of classics, Ukon Onoe is expanding his arena, one being the acrobatic Super Kabuki, and is rapidly gaining in popularity. Under the winter sky, the two celebrate the arrival of a new year by presenting the kabuki dance Renjishi dynamically on a special stage built at a temple near the Tokyo Tower.
