Beethoven – The Complete Quartets By The Ebène Quartet – Part II
On their second concert of their Beethoven odyssey, the Quatuor Ebène perform quartets from the early and middle period. The classical Opus 18 No. 1 shows some influence from Haydn but already displays the composer's unique style. The Harp Quartet op. 74 got its name from the pizzicati passages in the composition. The famed Opus 59 No. 3 (also known as Razumovsky 3, after the Russian diplomat and amateur violinist, who commissioned the work) ends on a spectacular and hair-raising fugue.
