Kyomai – A Dance Of Sophisticated Elegance And Beauty

The programme introduces the traditional performing art handed down in the Gion district of Kyoto along with an interview with Yachiyo Inoue, who is designated a living national treasure. The dance of the Inoue School is handed down to younger dancers as well as geisha and “maiko” (apprentice geisha) by Inoue, the present head of the school. The programme offers masterpieces of Kyoto-style dance as well as elegant dances by the geisha and maiko as well as Teuchi, a special hand-clapping performance handed down in the Inoue School.
