On The Trail Of Forgotten Peoples
Forgotten Peoples is a six-part choral cycle by Estonian composer Veljo Tormis, based on the folk music and poetry of Finno-Ugric peoples who are now dying out or losing their separate identity. Estonian top choir Collegium Musicale took it upon themselves to learn this three-hour-long cycle and meet with all six of the cultures represented in the piece to find out how they are coping. Upon arrival, the choir sang the respective songs of those people. This was all in hopes that reconnecting with the songs of their ancestors would help the remaining people find their identity and strength.
