The Tales Of Hoffmann
In 2019, The Brussels Royal Opera House, La Monnaie, celebrated the bicentenary of Jacques Offenbach’s birth with a new production of his posthumous masterpiece based upon the stories of the Romantic writer E.T.A Hoffmann. Conductor Alain Altinoglu and director Krzysztof Warlikowski took on the challenge of revisiting this fantastical opera through a cinematographic prism inspired by the movie A Star Is Born. Patricia Petibon brilliantly sings all four female roles – the doll Olympia, the severely ill Antonia, the courtesan Giulietta and the singer Stella.
