Evgeny Nikitin – The Rocking Baritone

Bertrand Normand´s film follows Nikitin during rehearsals and performances all over Europe and the United States with repertoire ranging from Wagner to Dallapiccola and of course at the Mariinsky Theatre where he performs his signature role, Tsar Boris. Filming took years while Nikitin was preparing for his first Italian opera with Scarpia in Tosca. He is also a brilliant drummer and we watch him rehearsing and recording with his heavy metal band. At one time he was near to abandon singing when Bayreuth replaced him as Flying Dutchman due to a swastika tattoo.
