Franz Liszt – Dante Sonata

“Midway upon the journey of our life…” This is a brand-new Dante who enters the infernal cavern where a battered piano holds sway. The notes from Après une lecture du Dante echo amongst the fumes and the mephitic sighs. With choreography by Andrea Herdeg, characters emerge from the piano case and give substance to their sad tales: the devil, Paolo, Francesca, Gianciotto… while Dante takes part in the narrative arc based on the evocative sensations of Franz Liszt’s score. Dante Sonata celebrates the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, the great poet.
