Purcell: Dido And Aeneas At International Baroque Festival At Melk Abbey
The International Baroque Festival at Melk Abbey has been firmly anchored in the festival landscape for years. In the magnificent baroque Abbey Church, the festival takes on Dido and Aeneas, Henry Purcell's ingenious opera about the love and sorrow of a couple who are only granted happiness for a brief moment. The lovers' fate finally culminates in one of the most poignant moments ever composed. Matthew Locke’s "Tempest" suite is performed as an overture. The Concentus Musicus Wien under its conductor Stefan Gottfried and an ensemble of outstanding singers make this semi-staged performance an unforgettable experience. “A stellar hour!” (Niederösterreichische Nachrichten)
