Pierre-Laurent Aimard: Messiaen’s Catalogue D’Oiseaux
“Catalogue d’oiseaux” (Catalogue of Birds) is one of the most important works by Olivier Messiaen. The French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard presents five excerpts from the cycle written between 1956 and 1958. What may sound at first like an ornithological reference work is one of the most unusual and brilliant piano compositions of its time. Aimard is the leading interpreter of Messiaen’s piano works. As a pupil of Messiaen’s wife Yvonne Loriod at the Paris Conservatoire, Aimard had contact with Messiaen already at an early age. Aimard received the Echo Klassik for his recording “Hommage à Messiaen”. Corresponding documentary separately available.
