Mozart: Requiem

  • Daniel Harding © Julian Hargreaves

A great return to sacred music, eight years after his Mass in C minor, would in all likelihood have been Mozart’s new turn in life had the latter not been untimely brought to an end on 5th December 1791. Originality and fragmentation are the two sides – one artistic, the other stylistic – between which the Requiem unfolds the sublime enigma of its beauty. The work, indeed, stands out as a radically new example in the history of its genre.
