Organ At The Philharmonic – Iveta Apkalna Meets Mariss Jansons & The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra

  • Mariss Jansons, Iveta Apkalna and the BRSO © BR

Latvian organist Iveta Apkalna is considered as a leading figure in the organ world. In March 2019, the recent titular organist of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg brought to life the organ at the Munich Philharmonie at the Gasteig which shares its origin with the Hamburg instrument – both were built by the famous Klais firm, Bonn. While Poulencs Concerto for Organ, Strings and Timpani is one of the rare post-classical organ concertos, the organ also plays an essential part at Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 3 which emerged a symphonic spectacular with the BRSO under the baton of Mariss Jansons. (The works of this concert are also available as separately assembled programmes.)
